If you are feeling “blah” and uninspired, or perhaps isolated and unsatisfied, it could be that you need to connect more with your inner spirit.
Spirituality is like a muscle, and you have to work it in order to reap the benefits.
What are the benefits of living more spiritually? How about more energy, peace and contentment? How about less stress and anxiety, and more patience and laughter?
If you don’t already have a regular spiritual practice, there are some simple ways to begin connecting to that natural part of yourself that you may be out of touch with. Here are five simple steps to increase your spiritual connection:
Write A Gratitude List
This is a daily practice that will dramatically improve your outlook on life and give you a greater sense of satisfaction. You can take a few minutes at the beginning or end of the day, and write down a list of things you are grateful for. They can be simple things, like a hot cup of coffee, a beautiful sunset or a phone call from an old friend. Try to think of new things each day. Acknowledging the positive things in your life, no matter how big or small, has a way of not only increasing your appreciation for what you have but also drawing more positive things your way.
Spend More Time In Nature
Spending time in nature is another vital way to deepen your spiritual connection. Take a trip to the ocean, the forest or the desert. Get away from the noise and traffic, and find a spot to sit and plant your feet in the earth. Listen to the sounds around you and breath in the fresh air. Hiking, biking, walking, and swimming are great activities that will help you feel refreshed and energized. You can also head out into nature to meditate, journal or spend time with loved ones.
Volunteer In Your Community
Finding ways to be of service is a way to not only help others but to help yourself as well. People tend to get stuck in self-centeredness, which is not conducive to spirituality. When you are helping someone else, you forget about your own troubles for a while. The act of helping another also makes you feel as though you are part of something bigger. It inspires connection, gratitude, and compassion.
Declutter Your Home
This may not seem to have much to do with spirituality, but having a clean, organized home makes it easier to clear your mind. Journaling and meditating are much easier to do when you aren’t distracted by clutter. Minimizing and downsizing can be cathartic and clears space for positive vibes.
Begin A Yoga Practice
Aside from the numerous physical benefits of yoga, you can also use this ancient practice to aid in your spiritual exploration. Try out different methods, teachers, studios, and practices until you find one that resonates with you. You don’t need to consult a guru or spend hours a day meditating to enjoy a richer spiritual existence. Taking time each day to express gratitude for all that you have, enjoying nature and helping others are just a few ways to begin living a more spiritual life.
